Causes of itchy scalp hair loss

Having an itchy scalp can definitely cause hair loss in more ways than one. It does not just do so because you tend to scratch your scalp so bad that the hair gradually falls off easily. It’s more than that. Hair loss happens usually because itchiness is a symptom of an even bigger problem.

It may also pertain to a weaker scalp at the moment. One of the most common causes of itchy scalp hair loss is having dandruff. Dandruff itchy scalp hair loss can either be caused by the excessive use of chemicals on the hair, dryness, and even and excessive sebum production.

A more serious reason for itchy scalp that can lead to hair loss is having psoriasis. Remember the fact that the scalp is actually the protective skin that protects the skull and psoriasis is an illness that occurs on the skin.

Yes, even the scalp is unfortunately not spared from this evil.  In the US alone, there’s an estimate of 2.5% population affected by psoriasis on the scalp. Though known to be non-contagious, it can eventually lead to skin lesions as the area weakens and becomes more susceptible to scratching.

But you should not be too worries about all of these. Regardless if your itchy scalp is caused by the usual dandruff or triggered by more alarming things like psoriasis, there is an effective treatment for these things.

Of course, there are those dandruff shampoos you can use for a specific period of time. You can also use some topical creams which you can massage on the affected area on your scalp. Just be careful not to put it directly on your hair to avoid the greasy feeling.

You can also take antibiotics orally to target dry itchy scalp hair loss. But remember to ask for a prescription prior to consuming antibiotics or you might run the risk of endagering your liver for hair loss treatment.
